La place forte de Mont-Dauphin construite par Vauban à partir de 1693 fait partie des 12 sites majeurs Vauban inscrits en 2008 au Patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO.

Derrière ses remparts en marbre rose, vous verrez les casernes où vivaient les soldats de Louis XIV, les échauguettes sur l'à-pic où ils veillaient, la poudrière, l'arsenal où ils gardaient armes et poudre.

C'est aussi un village insolite où 140 habitants vivent, comme tout le monde, mais dans un cadre extraordinaire de soleil méridional, de neige éblouissante, de silence et de pierres chargées d'histoire.

Du rempart, observez le nœud stratégique de vallées. Voyez les montagnes du Queyras aux mille randonnées, les stations de ski de Vars et Risoul, les glaciers des 4.000m du massif des Ecrins.
